Seven Seaspan boxships for HHIC and China

Canadian shipowner Seaspan has placed orders for seven containerships with five at HHIC Subic Bay, Philippines and two at Chinese yards Jiangsu Xinfu and Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding at a total cost of USD653.5 million. The five 11,000 teu vessels at HHIC are scheduled for delivery in 2017 and cost about USD93.5 million each. Seventeen year charters with a leading operator have been fixed and at the end of the charter period, they will buy the vessels at an already agreed price. The two 10,000 teu vessels at Chinese yards Jiangsu Xinfu and Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding are of the fuel-efficient Saver design and have been ordered for delivery in 2017 at a cost of about USD93 million each.
